  1.              Media Contacts Watchman Fellowship

  3. It was inevitable that following the eruption of the Branch
  4. Davidian siege, the media would contact Watchman Fellowship. It had
  5. certainly happened before.
  6.  
  7. When the Utah bombs exploded in October 1985 as a result of Mark
  8. Hofmann's forgeries, the media contacted WF for a statement. When
  9. Elizabeth Clare Prophet of the Church Universal and Triumphant
  10. predicted the end of the world in April 1990, the media contacted
  11. WF for a statement. Also in the same month, when the media learned
  12. the Mormon Church had altered its Temple ceremony again, they
  13. contacted WF. When the Korean Church of the Living Stone and
  14. Mission for the Coming Days predicted the Rapture in October 1992,
  15. the media contacted Watchman Fellowship.

  17. However, nothing prepared the Watchman staff for the media
  18. onslaught that began on Sunday, February 28th. To compound the
  19. problem, James Walker and Rick Branch were in San Diego, California
  20. for the opening of the new Mormon Temple. This left the Arlington
  21. Texas office extremely shorthanded.
  22.  
  23. As of today (April 9) the following is a synopsis of the past 40
  24. days as it relates to the Branch Davidians. Depending on how this
  25. stand-off is resolved, WF anticipates several more days of very
  26. intense media coverage.

  28.                            February 28
  29.  
  30. 6:15pm - An ABC affiliate in Dallas contacts Phillip Arnn for an
  31. interview. A reporter and cameraman arrive at his house a short
  32. time later.
  33.  
  34.                              March 1
  35.  
  36. 12:15am - An NBC affiliate in Ft. Worth calls Rick Branch's home.
  37. His wife explains that Rick is in California and that they should
  38. contact Phillip.
  39.  
  40. 12:30am - NBC calls Phillip's house asking him to be on their
  41. 6:00am news broadcast.
  42.  
  43. 6:00am - Phillip is live on the local NBC news.
  44.  
  45. 12:00pm - Phillip talks with the Fort Worth Star-Telegram about the
  46. Branch Davidians.
  47.  
  48. 1:00pm - Fort Worth radio station KNRB records a program with
  49. Phillip to be aired later.
  50.  
  51. 3:00pm - NBC Ft. Worth sends a reporter and cameraman back to the
  52. WF office for further information.
  53.  
  54. 7:00pm - Phillip is a guest on John Stewart Live aired on the USA
  55. Radio network.

  57.                              March 2
  58.  
  59. 11:30am - The local NBC reporter and cameraman arrive at WF office
  60. for a further interview with Phillip.
  61.  
  62. 12:15pm - The NBC station director calls the WF office. Tells
  63. reporter to get Phillip to the station as soon as possible. At
  64. about 1:00pm Phillip goes on live television news for nearly five
  65. hours.

  67. 2:00pm - Eddie O'Krongly gives an interview to radio station KLRN
  68. in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
  69.  
  70. 4:00pm - During one of the NBC station breaks Phillip gets the
  71. message to call Table Talk, a Beverly Hills, California satellite
  72. program. A brief interview during the NBC station break was
  73. completed.

  75.                              March 3
  76.  
  77. 7:45am - Phillip discusses the events at the Branch Davidian
  78. compound with radio host Greg Wheatly of WMBI (Chicago, Illinois)
  79. for their drive time program.
  80.  
  81. 7:00pm - While in San Diego, California for the Mormon Temple
  82. opening, James Walker records an interview about the Branch
  83. Davidians for the evening news on the local ABC affiliate.

  85.                              March 4
  86.  
  87. 8:00am Phillip records another radio program for an Oklahoma radio
  88. station.
  89.  
  90. 2:00pm - Another local NBC reporter and cameraman arrive at the WF
  91. office for further interviews and information from Phillip. The
  92. interview is to be aired on the 5:00pm and 10:00pm broadcasts.

  95.  
  96. 7:00pm - Phillip  appears  on NBC's 5 Talk Street with other panel
  97. members. This is broadcast on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

  99.                              March 6
  100.  
  101. James Walker and Fred Russell travel to Waco for state-wide Texas
  102. Christian Youth program. While there they journey to the Branch
  103. Davidian compound and speak with ATF officers.
  104.  
  105. 7:00pm - Rick Branch and Phillip are interviewed on KLIF, one of
  106. Dallas' largest secular talk radio stations.

  108.                             March 11
  109.  
  110. 9:30am - Phillip records television program on Austin station for
  111. airing at a later date.

  114.  
  115. 8:30am - Phillip recaps the Branch Davidians movements for a radio
  116. program on Blackwell, Oklahoma's KOKB.
  117.  
  118. 1:00pm - Phillip gives People magazine information about other
  119. extremist groups, like the Branch Davidians, for an upcoming issue.

  121. 1:30pm - The 700 Club calls the WF office for information.

  125. 11:00am - A reporter from the NBC station calls for further
  126. information.

  130. 11:30am - Phillip is contacted by Marlin Maddoux of USA Radio
  131. network to write an article for their Freedom Report newsletter
  132. about the Branch Davidians.

  134.                              April 5
  135.  
  136. 9:30am - An NBC reporter calls Phillip interested in Koresh's
  137. theology on Passover.
  138.  
  139. 9:45am - Dallas radio station, KLIF calls to inquire about Koresh's
  140. Passover.
  141.  
  142. 1:00pm - A reporter and cameraman from Dallas' ABC television comes
  143. to the WF office for an interview with Phillip.
  144.  
  145. 1:15pm - While Phillip is taping interview with ABC, an NBC
  146. reporter calls the office. Rick Branch spoke with him about
  147. Koresh's Passover.
  148.  
  149. 2:00pm - A cameraman from NBC arrives at the WF office to record
  150. some footage for the evening news.

  152.                              April 6
  153.  
  154. Phillip and Rick travel to Waco, Texas to gather material for this
  155. issue of the Watchman Expositor.

  157. 3:00pm - The Fort Worth Star-Telegram calls the WF office for
  158. information. James Walker explains Passover and other recent
  159. developments.

  161.                              April 7

  163. 3:30pm - Phillip recorded a program with Fort Worth's KNRB radio.

  165. NOTE:
  166. In addition, the Birmingham, Columbus, Houston, and Nashville
  167. Watchman offices participated in countless radio and network
  168. affiliate TV programs.
